We’re in Georgia, less than
six hours from our destination, St. George Island, Florida!
The day started out with
beautiful weather, and we had a short drive from our Stone Mountain State Park
Campground to Boone, North Carolina, were our friends Joy and Paul Mance now
live. Unfortunately, Joy and Paul are at
their home in Alex Bay, NY. Boone is
also the home of Appalachian State University, so it’s a lively town in a very
picturesque mountain setting. We really
liked it. Reminded me of Colorado. We drove by Joy and Paul’s previous home (we
don’t have their new address) and had a fantastic breakfast at Melanie’s Food
Fantasy. Boone is also the home of Doc
Watson, that’s Doc, next to me on the park bench.
I finally got a haircut,
having to settle for Smart Cuts since Floyd’s was closed in Mt. Airy, and then
we drove up the beautiful artsy village of Blowing Rock which was less than 10
miles from Boone. Blowing Rock also
reminded me of Colorado. In Blowing Rock
we took a quick walking tour and filled up our coffee mugs at a funky climbing
boutique and coffee shop.
We returned to our car and
headed south for our planned stop for the evening in Columbia, South Carolina,
but it started to pour, so we just kept driving until 8:45 PM, and luckily
found a vacancy at a very clean state campground in Jackson, Georgia. We covered 417 miles today, our most of this
trip, and now have less than six hours of driving left before we can put our
feet in the Gulf of Mexico on St. George’s Island.
Doc looks a little different than when we saw him in concert.
ReplyDeleteHis skin is a little darker.
